Basic requirements for NC car insurance

The minimum amount of coverage required by the state is 30/60/25.  This means that there is a $30,000 limit for injuries per person involved in an accident, with $60,000 being the maximum amount for each accident. The $25,000 coverage limit is for property damage liability for repairs to buildings, other automobiles and state roadway property.

Even though North Carolina doesn't require you to carry uninsured motorist coverage, it's always a good idea to purchase this coverage. The main reason is because of the high risk of being involved in an accident with an uninsured driver. In North Carolina, one in every twelve drivers is uninsured.

Is minimum auto insurance in NC enough?

The minimum required limits for North Carolina car insurance may not be enough to pay for injuries, car repairs, and damaged property.  The state recommends that vehicle owners get additional coverage that is greater than the required minimum.  They also encourage drivers to get comprehensive and collision coverage to protect their personal property and cover damages that the driver causes or for damages incurred without another vehicle being involved.

There may be an occasion in which the other driver does not have sufficient coverage to repair the damages you have incurred. If you want even greater protection, obtain comprehensive and collision North Carolina auto insurance to be sure that there are no financial burdens should you be involved in an accident.
